Structural Characterization

Because the application of detergents in biochemistry field faces many challenges, people have invested a lot of energy in developing new detergents. The structure of a detergent has a significant impact on its performance. Therefore, it is very important to perform the structure characterization for the new detergents in the development process, which is an important link to ensure the good performance and high quality of the detergents. In addition, whether you are selecting materials for new detergent development and concept validation, or trying to determine the cause of failure, structural characterization is essential.

Structural Characterization

Leveraging our extensive experience and knowledge in detergent research and rich testing experience, Alfa Chemistry provides comprehensive and quality services for each step in detergent development. Our expertise and state-of-the-art equipment enable us to ensure access to quality detergent structure analysis information at a competitive price and in a timely manner, to help you accelerate product development and marketization.

Structural Characterization Platform

With a combination of analytical techniques, we can determine or confirm the molecular structure for a detergent. These techniques include mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. With the help of combine these techniques, we can solve complex structural problems.

01

Mass spectrometry

Mass spectrometry is the technology based on ionization and fragmentation of sample molecules. Since molecules fragment in a unique manner, the resulting ion fragmentation pattern can be used to obtain structural information for a given molecule. At Alfa Chemistry, high resolution mass spectrometry will be used to characterize the structure of detergents.

NMR spectroscopy is a physicochemical technique used to obtain structural information about molecules that is based on the interaction of an externally applied radiofrequency radiation with atomic nuclei. We will use high-resolution 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy to determine the atomic connectivity and structural conformation of detergent molecules.

03

Infrared spectroscopy

Infrared spectroscopy is used to characterize various functional group information of organic compounds. The infrared spectroscopy can be used to identify unknowns by interpretation of characteristic absorbances and comparison with spectral libraries. Infrared spectroscopy can also be used in quantitative techniques because of its sensitivity and selectivity.

Elemental analysis is the classical method to obtain information about the elemental composition of an unknown substance, which is mainly used to determine the content of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur or oxygen (C, H, N, S/O) elements in organic materials. Our teams are able to draw on experience and awareness of different sample to identify the elemental composition.

Single-crystal X-ray Diffraction

Single-crystal X-ray diffraction is a non-destructive analytical technique which provides detailed information about the internal lattice of substances, including unit cell dimensions, bond-lengths, bond-angles, and details of site-ordering. At alfa chemistry, a state-of-the-art X-ray diffractometer is available to support chemistry and biochemistry research with determination of the 3-dimensional structures of compounds.
